Scientist 

(Contract – Full-time and permanent)

The Role

We are currently seeking highly motivated candidates to join Excellerate Bioscience as Scientists with a focus on receptor pharmacology and/or cell biology. We offer a dynamic team environment, working in partnership with our clients to provide flexible solutions from early-stage target identification to late stage detailed mechanism of action studies, across a range of different drug target classes and disease areas. You will have a strong team work ethic, and the drive to develop innovative biochemical, cellular signalling and pharmacological assays.

This is a role for individuals who have experience in cell biology and/or pharmacology gained through a BSc/MSc/PhD. Experience in an industrial/CRO setting would be advantageous. As a Scientist at Excellerate, you will be responsible for supporting the advancement of novel and exciting drug target identification projects, drug screening and development of in vitro assays for external clients. You will develop and conduct in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays using recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques. You will implement developed assays to support client compound profiling and molecular mechanism of action studies, and compound screening campaigns. You will work in a collaborative environment with our team of scientists, providing intricate data to improve drug discovery programmes. You will have the opportunity to pursue own personal research interests aligned to company strategy, resulting in peer-reviewed publication and presentation at external scientific meetings.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • A BSc / MSc / PhD focused around cell biology, receptor pharmacology and/or biochemistry (Essential) – industry experience would be advantageous.
  • Have some experience in one or more of the following areas (Essential)
    • Cellular pharmacology
    • GCPR or other receptor pharmacology
    • Compound profiling using in vitro assays (FRET, live-cell imaging, flow cytometry, qPCR etc)
  • A strong ability to problem-solve
  • Knowledge/understanding of detection methodologies such as fluorescent-based techniques, binding assays, cell signalling assays, reporter assays, cytokine release
  • Familiarity with quantitative cell-based/biochemistry assays with experience in in vitro pharmacological assay development is desirable
  • Knowledge of semi-automated liquid handling systems is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills

Laboratory Support Officer

(Contract – Full-time and permanent)

The Role

We are are currently seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Support Officer to join our pharmacology team. We offer a dynamic team environment, working in partnership with our clients to provide flexible solutions for early-stage drug discovery, across a range of different drug target classes and disease areas.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Laboratory Support Officer will be responsible for the smooth day to day running of the laboratory in accordance with all documented procedures and health and safety requirements. This also includes all aspects of housekeeping, ordering, handling supplier deliveries and ensuring that equipment is maintained and in good working order.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Day-to-day responsibility for running all aspects of laboratory operations together with working with project leads, scientists, and contractors to ensure efficient workflows are achieved.
  • Ordering and liaising with suppliers for key consumables, reagents, and equipment.
  • Ensure all deliveries are processed in a timely manner and databases updated with delivery details.
  • Maintenance of laboratory stocks including consumables and standard reagents.
  • Management of laboratory equipment. Coordinating repair, service contracts and maintenance with equipment suppliers.
  • Oversee the laboratory waste collections and ensure that all waste is handled correctly.
  • Maintenance and cleaning of the Tissue Culture facilities. Including management of liquid nitrogen and CO2 supplies.
  • Carry out regular quality controls of liquid handling/robotics equipment.
  • Key responsibility in making sure the labs are clean, functional and adhere to HSE standards.

Experience of a laboratory environment is essential. Database management (Excel), basic IT skills and strong proficiency in maths are desirable.
